Social Software with Dating Features
Well, we all know that dating pretty much morphed itself into social community without asking. Shame on you dating! No dating candy for you! Ok, so now that we’re past the temper tantrums let’s understand why.
Dating sites have been around for years and when the social sites like MySpace popped up, they took a huge chunk of the dating sites business. Why you ask? Because the social sites like MySpace, Facebook and Tribe were all free. So, people could find someone to date without having to pay a monthly subscription fee. This pretty much forced dating sites to change the way they make money. Enter Adsense and advertising. Now, I do have to say that not all dating sites were forced to change. There are tons of dating sites that still charge monthly memberships for communication. Those are niche market dating sites. The largest niche market is CupidMedia. They have about 19 niche market dating sites and have roughly about 10,000 new signups every day combined and that is huge. There are also free dating sites like PlentyofFish that make over a million a year in Adsense and advertising.
So what you have now are sites like Match.com rethinking how they can make money. The thing is, you have to have a dating site that will bring people in. Can’t start a general one because it just won’t work. It has to be a niche market dating site. Can you make money with a social community site that has dating features? Yes, it’s easy to do. You just need a good piece of dating software that has social features or have a social community software that has dating features. Keep it free and build your memberbase and build your traffic and create a following.
The old saying of “Build it and they will come” does not apply here.
