Once you get about 500 members then you can turn on an affiliate program and if your dating software doesn’t have it, then at that time get it. Not before because it’s just a waste of money. Save your flash for class.

That is 100% absolutely the truth. Surfers don’t want to see flashy design. They did 10 years ago when it was new and cool but leave the flash at home. Get yourself a good simple design that will convey your sites market and fill it with content and by content I mean members. Content is key. How many times do I have to tell people that. The more members you have that are current and active the better your dating software site will be.

Now, remember that when you are designing your dating software template. Keep it simple and keep the graphics down to a minimum. Don’t go overboard with huge graphics. Again, keep your dating site simple.

In closing, you don’t need all these really cool features. Standard dating software with search, email, chat and IM is about all you need. Believe me, if you have tons of members in your niche market dating site then you will make money if you are charging monthly memberships.

Having blogs, forums and groups or other social components in your dating software will hurt your business.

Make your dating site a dating site and work on adding new members because members are key part of your profitable dating site. No members then no monthly payments from those members. Keep it simple. If you do add a blog, add a blog software and put it in a different directory and only link to it via the footer of your dating site. Somewhere where it’s not that visible. Visible only to Yahoo or Google.

I get this question a lot so I wanted to write a little something about dating software that can translate a language with regards to Instant Messenger that will do the translation.

There isn’t a dating software package out there that will translate your text for you for the Instant Messenger. A few people have written to ask me about having one member type in Spanish and the other member receiving the text translated into English. So, there is nothing out there like that. There is the Userplane.com solution but it won’t do that translation for you.

In order for that to work you would need a database of translated words and be able to call them on the fly. Just doesn’t exist but with the world speaking more English these days it should not be a problem. Just keep in mind that most people do speak English and that your dating software should really be in English.

The only downside is that you get ads served with it and that to me is not a problem. Just look at Plentyoffish. They use the Userplane free chat and instant messenger.

Userplane also offers a paid service which won’t show any ads and that will cost you about $50 dollars a month for 10 concurrent connections. I’d go with the free one myself. Userplane has been around for a long time and we have worked with them for many years. It’s a vital part of any dating software or social software.

Dating software has been around for a long time and there are many dating software providers out there that will sell you a standard dating software package but they are all the same. They all have the same features and they same formats. Nothing really original about them. Not unless you count the design as original. That’s about all you get different with them all. Oh and the content too! That is really the only thing different about all the dating software packages out there.

Ok, so say you want to create your own custom dating software for your own dating site. What do you do? Where do you go? Who do you talk to? Custom dating software these days can run you thousands of dollars. In my opinion this is not a good idea unless you are “Really” thinking outside the box where pre-existing dating software features will be null and void! There are thousands of offshore developers in Russia, Ukraine and India. Now for my own personal experience, stay away from Russian developers. I myself like to use reputable programmers for India. They are much easier to work with and at times, a whole lot cheaper.

Prepare yourself with mockups done in Photoshop that clearly define what you want it to look like. Having mockups cuts your dev time in half. Trust me. I’ve learned from that mistake. You don’t need to be a graphic designer to do it either. Simply drawing it on paper and scanning it will work too. Remember to have a clear idea of where you are going before you begin. You can use SubmitExpress.com to submit to them for free. They charge $29 dollars to submit to over 70,000 search engines and directories. It’s a good value. Gets your site out there quickly. Also remember that your site is a business so promote promote promote.

Step 5 - Keep your dating software site content fresh and by that I mean add things often like blogs, forum postings and things like that. Search engines like sites that have fresh content so add entries to the blogs and forums. The more profiles you have that are searchable then that becomes more searchable and indexable content.

If you follow these basic steps then you will generate traffic to your web site. Traffic is what makes money. DO NOT SPAM. That will only get you blacklisted.
